Information

The Norway Spruce Christmas tree (Picea abies) is the tree most people picture when they think of a UK Christmas. It's a traditional Christmas tree: full, conical-shaped, with a strong traditional Christmas tree fragrance and fine, slightly sharp needles. Unlike a cut tree, ours arrives alive and rooted in its growing pot. So, it can be brought indoors for the festive period, then moved outside or planted straight into the garden once the decorations come down.

The Norway spruce tree is loved for its scent and classic shape, but it isn't the strongest needle holder among Christmas tree varieties. Kept cool, watered regularly and away from radiators or open fires, it will hold its needles well through the festive season. Left in a warm room too long, it drops needles faster than firs like the Nordmann.

As this is a natural product, each tree is individual and may show variation in shape, colour or size. Colour intensity can vary too, often looking a touch more muted green in person than in photos.

Expert Care Tips

Follow these simple steps to keep your Norway Spruce healthy indoors, and to help it settle back outside once Christmas is over.

• Acclimatise the tree in a cool room or porch for a few days before moving it into a warm living room
• Keep it away from radiators, fires and other direct heat sources
• Water regularly, enough to keep the compost moist but never sitting in water
• Check the drip tray or outer pot so water doesn't pool around the roots
• Once Christmas is over, acclimatise it back outdoors gradually before replanting
